Confessionally Lutheran Resurrection Congregation in Latvia

The Lutheran Church of the Cross (LCC) is praying in the midst of this misery that it could for its own part help those who are without a safe spiritual home. We are dedicated to the Word of God and want to build on the rock Christ, on which ground we are saved even when everything else is lost. Even today the everlasting word of our Lord brings peace into our sin-burdened consciences as He declares: "I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins" (Isaiah 43:25, KJV). In this mercy is our whole salvation.

What is The Lutheran Church of the Cross (LCC)?

The Lutheran Church of the Cross (LCC) (in Finnish Luterilainen ristin seurakunta (LRS), is an independent church body established in the spring of 1999. We gather in Vaasa (on the West Coast), in Hyvinkää (near Helsinki), Helsinki (the capital) and in Södertälje /Sverige.

"Lutheran" in the name of our congregation means that we are dedicated to the pure word of God alone, as the Reformer was. Our congregation is confessional in the real sense of the word: we confess all the doctrines of the Lutheran Book of Concord without reservation because they are in harmony with the Bible.

The Lutheran Church of the Cross  FINLAND (independent)

I Of the Holy Scriptures

We believe, teach and confess that the Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of God, verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit, given for our salvation, and the sole rule and norm for all doctrine and living. We profess the doctrine expressed in the Lutheran Confessions (The Book of Concord) because (quia) it is in harmony with the Holy Scriptures.

II Of God and Creation

We believe, teach and confess that there is only one God who is three distinct persons, but of one and the same divine essence: the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. He is the only true God and the Creator of the whole world and every human being. We reject all evolutionistic theories.

III Of Man and Sin

We believe, teach and confess that as a result of the Fall, the whole mankind by its nature is totally corrupted by sin, resisting God, and subject to the wrath of God and eternal damnation.

IV Of Redemption

We believe, teach and confess that Jesus Christ is true God who became incarnate, being conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary, and redeemed us from the guilt of sin by his perfect obedience which he manifested all along, right until His death on the cross (active and passive obedience). Through this vicarious satisfaction he earned forgiveness of sins for the whole world.

V Of Conversion

We believe, teach and confess that we are saved solely by the unmerited grace of God (sola gratia), solely by faith in Christ (sola fide), i.e. in the free gift of salvation, earned for us by the redeeming work of Christ. We reject all co-operation of man in conversion (synergism). Saving faith, which is personal trust in Christ as our Redeemer, is exclusively the work and gift of God.

VI Of Justification

We believe, teach and confess that, on the basis of the vicarious satisfaction of Christ, God has declared the whole world to be righteous in Christ (objective justification). Therefore, He justifies, i.e. accounts as righteous, all those who believe in Christ, that is, put their trust on the fact that for Christ´s sake their sins are forgiven, without the works of the Law (subjective justification).

VII Of the Means of Grace

We believe, teach and confess that God has given us the means of grace in order to bring about, strengthen and maintain saving faith, namely, the Word of the Gospel and the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Only through these external means ordained by Him will he offer and communicate these spiritual blessings.

We believe, teach and confess that Holy Baptism is a washing of regeneration, wherein also little children become partakers of God's grace, since they in Baptism receive through divinely wrought faith the kingdom of God. In that way they also become members of the Church. However, Baptism does not save those who live in unbelief. They must in repentance and faith turn back to the gracious God who once applied His grace to them in Baptism.

We believe, teach and confess that in the Lord's Supper the true body and blood of Christ are received in the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. We celebrate the Lord's Supper only with those who are in fellowship with us.

VIII Of the Church

We believe, teach and confess that there is one holy Christian Church on earth. The members of the Church are all those who believe that God forgives their sins for Christ´s sake. The Church, in the proper sense of the term, is composed of believers only is invisible. The marks of this Church are the Word of God, purely preached, and the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord´s Supper, rightly administered according to the institution of Christ.

Also local churches (congregations), in as fas as they are churches, consist solely of believers. The visible society, containing hypocrites as well as believers, is called a church only in an improper sense. Establishing a local church is a divine ordinance, not an adiaphoron.

We believe, teach and confess that, in the teaching of the congregation, there must exist a unity based on the Word of God. Scriptural church discipline must be exercised in the congregation in order to reject unscriptural doctrine and godless living. We reject all unionism where false doctrine is allowed beside the correct one, and all church-fellowship with heterodox church bodies. All church-fellowship (pulpit, altar and prayer fellowship and co-operation in churchly matters) must be based on doctrinal unity.

The orthodox character of a church is established not by its outward acceptance of and subscription to an orthodox creed, but by the doctrine which is actually taught in its pulpits, in its institutions, and its publications.

IX Of the Public Ministry

We believe, teach and confess that in the Public Ministry of the Word may serve only a male person, who is qualified for it and has been called by the congregation to serve it with the Word of God and the Holy Sacraments. The pastoral office of the local congregation is a divine ordinance.

We also believe, teach and confess that the prophecies of the Holy Scriptures concerning the Antichrist have been fulfilled in the Pope of Rome and his dominion.

X Of the Last Things

We believe, teach and confess that Christ will return visibly to this earth on the last day, when the present world will come to an end, all the dead will rise and will be judged together with those who live. The unbelievers will go into everlasting damnation, but the believers will go into life everlasting.

We believe, teach and confess that the Church will remain under the cross until the end of the world. We reject all millenialistic doctrines, because they dangerously obscure the seriousness of the present time of grace and engender a false conception of the kingdom of Christ, turning the hope of Christians on earthly goals.

And we reject all the contradictory doctrines with all our heart.
